Discovery
How do we understand the past and present for the sake of our future?
The persistent, complex questions about ourselves; our place in the universe; and our traditions, culture and communities are the foundations of knowledge. They are the heart of a New American University’s work.
How have we developed and adopted ideas of social order, peace and conflict, risk and religious traditions?
We must be unafraid to ask big, foundational questions if we are to be at the cutting edge of discovery.
Rapid, multi-faceted progress in science and technology calls for a focused exploration of its effects on the economy, social policy and the individual.
We have entered an unprecedented phase of human development in which our science and technology can literally reshape the world — and ourselves.
Building this understanding is a key to reducing conflict and promoting tolerance.
ASU has the depth of expertise and the transdisciplinary focus to take on the most complex, vexing local and global issues.
We have entered an unprecedented phase of human development in which our science and technology can literally reshape the world — and ourselves.
ASU scientists work across a broad spectrum of disciplines, including physics and astrobiology.
This initiative integrates the strengths of the natural sciences, technology, the humanities and the social sciences to address large, global issues.
Building this understanding is a key to reducing conflict and promoting tolerance.
A multidisciplinary approach combining science, engineering, social science and computing is advancing synthetic biology and sensor technology.
The origins of the universe and Earth are critical contexts for understanding the forces that ultimately govern our future.
{Fall and Spring Lecture Series of the Central Arizona Society, Archaeological Institute of America} These lectures help community members understand the relevance of archeology to much about today’s world. From the arena blood games that reinforced power relations in ancient Rome to the use of chocolate as currency in prehispanic Mesoamerica, the lectures span a wide and interesting array of topics that reveal the evolution of our cultural heritage. Contact Almira Poudrier for more.
{Annual Earth and Space Exploration Day} Earth and Space Exploration day is a free annual fall event hosted by the School of Earth and Space Exploration (SESE) on ASU’s Tempe campus outside the Bateman Physical Sciences F-wing on Tyler Mall. The SESE community offers special science-related activities from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for students age five and up, families, educators and anyone interested in exploring Earth and space alongside real scientists.
